Civil War letters, 1863-1864.

Four letters written by Thomas J. Kessler (1864) including descriptions of fighting at Petersburg, Va., Kessler's capture by Confederates, and witnessing an execution of a bounty jumper and Confederate spy; two letters (1863-1864) written by Samuel Kessler, Union soldier of Company C of the 50th Ohio Infantry, describing fighting near Kennesaw Mountain, Ga., and the Battle of Chickamauga, and friendly encounters of opposing troops between battles; and a letter (14 Aug. 1863) written by Kessler's cousin T.R. Ritter, hoping to soon be drafted into the Union Army, describing what he saw at the battlefields of Gettysburg.
